Jevhen Šokalo
Yevhen Shokalo studied at the Conservatory in Lvov and the Music Academy in Kiev. He obtained his first professional engagement at the Kiev National Opera. This was followed an engagement in the Opera of the South Bohemian Theatre in 1993, where his debut was the role of Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème. His sonorous bass determined him to be a regular guest both on all Czech opera stages and abroad (Italy, Japan). Despite that, since 1998, his home stage has been the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Pilsen. His main roles include Attila in Verdi’s opera of the same name, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Vodník in Rusalka, Kecal in The Bartered Bride, the title role in the opera Boris Godunov by M. P. Musorgsky and Mefisto by A. Boit, Boris Izmailov from Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. He reaped great success at the Open-Air Theatre in Český Krumlov, e.g. as Padre Guardiano in the staging of Verdi’s La forza del destino.
