W. A. Mozart
Comic opera
Premiere 6. 12. 2014
The world renowned opera version of Beaumarchais’ “banned” theatre play was born in Vienna in 1786. The Marriage of Figaro has always been linked with Prague, although the world premiere was held in Vienna. But it was in Prague where it experienced its triumph, thanks to which the impresario Bondini commissioned an opera exclusively intended for Prague – Don Giovanni. Such a rich and entangled history, aptly expressed by the title of its literary version La Folle Journée ou le Mariage de Figaro, can be found in very few operas. Mozart masterfully transforms the theme of jealousy and love into a gallery of characters with Figaro at the head, who with his future wife Susanna is confronted with the incorrigible philandering of Count Almaviva.
