Maurice Ravel
Family opera
Premiere 6. 5. 2016
A magical story which takes place in a house in which the sofa, a Chinese cup, the teapot, the clock, a textbook of arithmetic and other objects come alive to rise up against a naughty boy who torments them. In the course of this one-hour opera, an owl, a tomcat, a squirrel, the fire, a princess, a shepherd and a shepherdess, and a tree all have their say… The music, which literally puts a spell on both children and adults, both by its colour and the euphony of the French language, is an ideal entrance to the mysterious world of this opera for the entire family.
The French composer Maurice Ravel, a master of atmosphere, staged this work, composed from the libretto of the French authoress Colette, in Monte Carlo in 1925, and the opera has been a mainstay of the repertoire all over the world ever since.
The Opera Ensemble of the South Bohemian Theatre and the production team led by the SKUTR duo invites the whole family to the world of fantasy.
