Gioacchino Rossini
A crazy comedy with mistaken identities
Premiere 7. 10. 2016
An opera road-trip to Naples with a promising start ends up in a crazy commotion when a planned courtship becomes unexpectedly complicated following an incident of mistaken luggage, and subsequently also mistaken identities. And adding the caprices of a charming yet temperamental Italian lady on top of these troubles makes this work a promise of fun not only for opera lovers. This less known one-act work was composed by Rossini as his third opera at the age of twenty, and it is based on the story of the French comedy of the same name by Eugène Scribe. It was chosen and translated into Czech by the head of the opera ensemble, Tomáš Studený, to mark his debut as director at the South Bohemian Theatre.
