Giuseppe Verdi
A drama of fatefully mistaken identities
Premiere 20. 1. 2017
The central character of the tragic story is a woman suffering from a horrific trauma from her past. Her unquenchable desire for revenge gradually destroys everything human in her, and finally also becomes fatal for Manrico and Luna, two rivals in love, who until the last moment are unaware that they are brothers. The drama, which is originally situated in 15th century Spain and based on the story of Antonio García Gutiérrez, is full of knife-edge situations, rendered in the music of the ingenious Italian composer. Il Trovatore ranks by right among the most frequently staged operas that keep attracting artists and producers. The opera is staged in the Italian original with Czech and German surtitles.
