Leoš Janáček
Musical drama
Premiere 19. 1. 2018
The year 1918 is the milestone of modern-day Czech independence, and it is at the beginning of this yearthat a work of Czech provenance, Jenůfa, appeared on a world-renowned Viennese stage. It opened Leoš Janáček, aged 60, the door to the world. Nowadays, Leoš Janáček ranksamong the greatest opera geniuses. In his work, he changes the habitual operatic practice through his stubborn dramatism which touches the very core of emotions, the truth and the essence of human existence. The story of Jenůfa’s falling in love concerns the substance of relationships and love, both between partners and between mother and child. Where is the borderline that may not be crossed, even on account of love, and how much can one hurt out of love?
