Musical comedy
Premiere 4. 5. 2018
The phenomenon of Don Juan has been in existence in the European theatre for over 400 years. The first author to shape this theme was the playwright of the Spanish Golden Age,Tirso de Molina (1630), who was later followed by many others, including the famous Molière (1665). However, its most frequently performed operatic adaptation has undoubtedly been Don Giovanniby W. A. Mozart, premiered at the Estate Theatre in 1787. Few are familiar with the fact, though, that Mozart’s Don Giovanni has a twin brother – an opera by the less known composer Giuseppe Gazzaniga. What will happen if these twins meet on the same stage? Yet, where there are two, a third is also nearby, and so two opera seducers will be challenged by a third one fromthe world of drama. In the course of this evening, which promises amusement, speed and surprise, the audience will hear the highlights from both operas rendered by outstanding soloists.
