Tonight’s Mefistofele was, to put it briefly, devilishly perfect. A gorgeous set design, great production, breathtaking atmosphere, the ease and perfection with which some of the arias were sung... as they say, you don’t need to know Italian to understand Italian opera, today it was confirmed a hundredfold, there was no need to know Italian, I was simply captivated and took it all in. One of the most beautifully rendered operas I have ever seen in my life. The set design was a breathtaking spectacle. Because of the outstanding singing and musical performances, the audience couldn’t but give a standing ovation at the end. One of the most beautifully rendered operas I have ever seen in my life. The set design was a breathtaking spectacle. Because of the outstanding singing and musical performances, the audience couldn’t but give a standing ovation at the end. Jan Hnyk as Mefistofele completely enchanted me and so did Jana Šrejma Kačírková as Margaret. The Opera ensemble of the South Bohemian Theatre rightly won the Libuška Audience Award for their rendition of the opera. It is a pity that Mefistofele is not staged very often. I would go and see it again right away. See you in the autumn then!
