The dramatic life stories of four generations of women who had to defy the historical turns of the 20th century – the Nazi occupation, collectivisation, the Warsaw Pact troops invasion in 1968 and the destructive normalisation. Marie, Magdaléna, Libuše and Eva - each woman braves the untoward fate in her own specific way while always searching for love and joy, sometimes with clenched teeth and sometimes with humour.
The novel of the Czech authoress was originally written in French and was awarded a number of French literary prizes.
